Born and raised in Detroit, Jada Nycole Ellise grew up surrounded by the sounds of Motown, Techno, and Gospel music. Being engulfed in such an explosive melting pot of music led Ellise to eventually create her own soulfully whimsical sound world as a vocalist, songwriter and producer. She has since cultivated a sound reminiscent of classic 90s Neo-soul and R&B, often combining classic rhodes, other-worldly synth and trippy drums with rich jazz inspired vocals.
Ellise cites D’angelo, Lalah Hathaway and J. Dilla as some of her influences. Ellise has performed across the country at many popular venues including the star studded iVoted festival, The Peppermint Club in Los Angeles and Apache Café in Atlanta. In 2014 Ellise competed in the Detroit Jazz Festival's Youth Vocal competition placing runner-up. She has also performed as an opening act for artists such as Chrisette Michelle, Elle Varner, and soul legends Frankie Beverly and Maze. In addition to performing center stage, Ellise has also supported jazz vocalist Kathleen Bertrand as a background singer.
Ellise’s debut album Temporary Colors was released on June 19, 2020 for digital and physical sale. The project is self-produced consisting of 12 songs that feature the singer’s skills as a singer-songwriter, and additionally a multi-instrumentalist.
